Our new studio is fully eguipped with state of the art machinery and our certified instructors are highly experienced and come from a variety of movement backgrounds. They will work with you to create an exercise and/or rehabilitation regimen in one or both of the offered methods that meets your personal goals.
What is Pilates?
Joseph Pilates developed this method of exercise in the 1920's to help speed recovery of soldiers in WWI. Still an excellent way to rehabilitate from injury or surgery, the Pilates method also has much more to offer. The technique aims to strenghten your body without building bulk. It facilitates body awareness, good posture, flexibility, strenghth, coordination and grace. The technique is comprised of over 500 exercises which can be performed on a mat or on specialized equipment which can provide support and resistence. The method works to develop the strength of your core by training the deep abdominal muscles closest to your spine. Muscles will gain not only strength but also elasticity, and joints will gain mobility. The Pilates method is an experience that involves your entire musculature as well as your mind and spirit and creates a balanced and well conditioned body.
What is Gyrotonic?
By combining movements from ballet, gymnastics, swimming and yoga, creator Julia Horvath developed the Gyrotonic Expansion System. This method of body conditioning is performed on wooden equipment designed to allow total freedom of movement. The method aims to increase the functional capacity of the spine and exercise your musculature while mobilizing and articulating the joints without compression. In its exercises you will stretch and strengthen simultaneously as well as develop your range of motion and coordination thereby facilitating a well proportioned and less injury prone body. The excercises are based on natural and spherical movements and are executed with a synchronised breathing pattern and ryhthmical awareness which create cardiovascular stimulation. A session will leave you feeling worked and rejuvenated.
